Welcome one and all to my photography blog. I thought I would share my journey from clueless happy snapper to professional photographer with you all. Well you have to live the dream right? Designed to keep me on track, motivated and hopefully be of some interest. I have never kept a diary or journal so this introspection and catalogue of one's thoughts is all new to me, so please bear with me - thanks for visiting!

Braving the weather

Bananaman! Now that's got your attention!

In my mind - Lucy was running in the Cancer Research 10K charity run and I thought it would be a great photo opportunity to capture some action shots of the runners and support her at the same time. When I looked out my window that morning, I could see that the weather was grim. Wet and windy. Poor runners I thought. Turns out poor me as well as I got soaked, but they say you have to suffer for your art so I persevered.

I first stood at the peace statue area at the 8k point where the runners were turning a corner in front of me so I had unobscured view of them and altered between relative close-ups of individual runners that caught my attention and group shots

The wet and shiny ground made a nice contrast between the colourful runners and I thought the moody looking clouds only intensified the sheer emotion seen on the runners' faces.

My next choice of spot was further up the field about the 9k mark with the runners facing away from me to get a different perspective.

My favourite place that gave me a lot of pleasure was at the finish line, watching the celebratory faces and arms in the air was quite moving and one of the things I like to capture most is people's emotions, hence why I would like to do wedding photography at some point in the future.

I did, however, have extreme camera envy when I saw the size of the lens belonging to the photographer to the side of me at the finishing line. Well, one day maybe :)

Here's a few more choice shots from the event, see what you think

In Camera - I put the camera onto Sport mode which freezes fast moving action and makes a number of exposures really quickly. This was advantageous at this kind of event as you can track a particular runner, take a number of shots from different angles until you are satisfied with the results. I also did not want to risk blur with the one shot mode as the runners went past me, missing my moment.
